PATRIOTISM IN THE USA
Mark Twain said that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. Hitler used it in Germany to stir the fires of Nazism. Lenin and later Stalin used it to rally the Proletariat to do their bidding. Patriotism was directed toward the Motherland, the Fatherland, the Rodina, the Reich, the Empire, Viva Le France, etc. Nationalism, the blood brother of patriotism, springs not only from love of country, of the land, of the people, of the culture, but of duty in servitude of those things.
In most countries members of the military swear an oath to protect their nation, their leaders, their interests. The United States is the exception to this rule. I don’t think most people understand this. Patriotism in the United States is not directed at its lands, its leaders, its history, its culture or even its peoples. Officers of the United States military do not swear an oath to these things. These things are not where their allegiance is directed.
All members of the United States military, all members of Congress, every President, even police officers in this country swear an oath of allegiance to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. That single document that lays out the blessings of liberty, the God-given rights of individuals, the freedoms we practice and enjoy is the only thing worthy of patriotism and this is no refuge of a scoundrel.
Throughout history wars have been fought over national honor. English soldiers would lay down their lives for country and crown. Frenchmen would go to war to protect the honor of France, as though rivers, valleys and farmland are living, breathing beings to be protected. Nazi Germany rallied to war behind the tide of both national pride and hatred of those who stood in the way of their conquest. As an American warrior we do not lay down our lives for a river, a valley or any piece of dirt. We lay down our lives for the blessings of liberty as framed by our Constitution. I grew up in Missouri, but I would not die to protect the “honor” of a piece of rocky, clay-ridden soil, nor would I stare death in the eye for a bend in the muddy Mississippi. The land doesn’t know if republic or a dictatorship lies above it. It does not know whether its occupants live in freedom or tyranny. There is no hope, love, passion or justice in rock and mud.
This is why Patriotism in the United States is a different animal than in other nations. Patriots in the United States celebrate not a country, a state or a man. They celebrate the blessings of liberty and strive to protect, honor, secure and uphold those ideals outlined in the greatest document ever conceived by Man.

VIRULENT WINDS
The Middle East is uniting under Islamic Jihad and former enemies, Sandor and Kumar, are waging a war of terrorism against both Russia and America. Trying to convert their military might into hard cash, Russia secretly offers a dozen advanced MiG-41s to the United States along with a plan that is both daring and dangerous, but could forever alter the balance of power in the Middle East.
Hoping to destroy the unity between Kumar and Sandor, Russian Security Advisor Victor Komiskov and his American counterpart NSA Director Charles Michaels assembles a covert strike team of hotshot US and Russian pilots under the command of renegade General George “Maddog” Tanner.
Flying the advanced MiG-41 under the cover of night they cut their teeth on a mission to assassinate a high level Kumari terrorist then turn their attention to a Sandori nuclear facility soon to begin breeding plutonium for its nuclear weapons program. Soon Kumar and Sandor are on the edge of war as each thinks the other responsible for the attacks.
With Islamic unity broken and the region gearing up for war, the Russians have one last surprise, a stolen SS-20 nuclear warhead in Sandori hands. The team must fly one last mission to destroy this warhead before it can be moved, but a lone US intelligence officer accidentally discovers the awful truth and the Russians’ terrible secret.
